Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 20,000 staff.

We are responsible for running a family of nine hospitals across six separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.

Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider

This is an exciting and varied role within a growing team working within health research in Greater Manchester. The Public Programmes Team is a specialist unit which connects people with health research. We are a nationally recognised, award winning team who advise on and deliver Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement, or PPIE, in health research. Our work aims to improve health research by inviting people and patients to share their ideas and experiences. We use a variety of creative approaches to make people think about research and health in new ways, and for conversations about science and health to become part of popular culture.

Public Programmes is based within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, partnered with the University of Manchester and works across Greater Manchester. We are financially independent and not-for profit, hosted by Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with the University of Manchester. This role is office based working at the Nowgen Centre, on the Central Hospital campus (M13 9WU) and may require occasional meetings at our partner hospital sites across Greater Manchester, e.g. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

The main purpose of this role is to:

  • Work closely with the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility and the Public Programmes team to develop, deliver, evaluate and embed a programme of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) as part of a wider PPIE strategy including the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC);
  • Oversee, co-ordinate and report on all the elements of this programme.
