The Care of the Elderly Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary is looking to appoint two enthusiastic, dynamic consultant colleagues to join the team, help strengthen and further develop this expanding essential service already providing very high standards of care.  The appointees will hold or be within six months of CCT or equivalent, possess strong communication, team working and clinical leadership skills.

The department provides a comprehensive service for older people living in Manchester and surrounding boroughs including acute general inpatient and outpatient care for older people, general rehabilitation, a falls service, acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation, movement disorders and is developing an innovative Acute Frailty Service at the Front Door. There is a strong team of eight consultants and associate specialists with varied sub-specialty interests, a nurse consultant, and is well supported by a multidisciplinary team of junior doctors and ANPs. There is strong integrated delivery of care together with allied health professional colleagues.

Manchester Royal infirmary is the largest and oldest teaching hospital in Manchester.  Co-located on the MRI Oxford campus in Central Manchester are most medical and surgical specialties, providing an ideal platform to deliver high level 21st century healthcare. As such there will be strong links with acute medicine, diabetology, cardiology, nephrology, rheumatology, gastroenterology and hepatology, haematology, respiratory medicine, renal transplant, vascular surgery, HPB, etc. ITU in-reach is very responsive and proactive. In addition, the Single Hospital Service for Manchester provides exciting opportunities to share best practice, and improve care in collaboration with colleagues at Wythenshawe and Trafford Hospitals. At MFT, consultant involvement in shaping services is actively encouraged and supported with bespoke leadership training provided through the acclaimed Newly Appointed Consultants (NAC) Leadership Programme.
