Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 20,000 staff.

We are responsible for running a family of nine hospitals across six separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology, Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.

Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider

91 Dermot Murphy Close is a purpose built unit caring for our most complex and vulnerable community patients. We are part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO) in Integrated Community Services.

We wish to recruit a Unit Manager to lead the well-established team and continue to shape and develop this Continuing Healthcare facility.

The Unit is situated in Withington M20 in a peaceful location with its own grounds and on site parking. We have 22 beds, 1 of which is for short stay respite patients. We have an on site chef and a social coordinator who has developed a wide range of activities and social experiences for our patients.

You will need an innovative approach towards providing specialist support to highly dependent individuals across all age groups with complex and chronic health problems, in an environment which encourages freedom of choice and improved quality of life. We are a nurse led service who are proud to care for patients with long term, primary health needs and as such our nurses are highly skilled in clinical care.

The role requires excellent clinical leadership and communication skills and an ability to work in partnership with a diverse multidisciplinary team. Although there is considerable medical support, this is an autonomous role in a nurse led unit, and the post holder must therefore be prepared to support and develop the team to make clinical decisions and deliver care at the highest standard.

To be a nurse at Dermot Murphy is to be part of something special, which is why we need a dynamic and proactive manager; someone who is adaptable to new roles, responsive to change and always looking to improve and develop innovative practice.

We can offer training, flexibility, friendliness and a caring environment in which to work.
