An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with excellent clinical, supervisory and organisational skills to join our expanding regional Intermediate Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. The unit is based at Trafford General Hospital and is part of the Greater Manchester Neurological Rehabilitation Network which provides a whole-system neuro-rehabilitation service across Greater Manchester. The Unit has been undergoing the process of expansion after being recognised as the preferred provider for Neurological Rehabilitation for Wigan and Bolton which will expand the number of beds on the unit to 50 this year. The caseload is diverse clinically interesting, you will be expected to manage patients with complex communication and/ or swallowing impairments. Rehab frequently requires a multidisciplinary team approach to management.  There are frequent opportunities to work alongside other members of the Specialist Neuro- Rehab team.

You should have proven experience of rehabilitation with a Neuro caseload. You should have evidence of post graduate dysphagia competencies and experience of managing complex dysphagia patients.  Competencies in Videofluoroscopy are desirable, and an understanding of indication for Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES).    You should have experience of managing patients with complex communication impairment within the field of brain injury.  You should have evidence of acute neurological management and rehabilitation skills, multidisciplinary working and experience of complex discharge planning within the NHS.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be involved in the development of the Speech and Language Therapy service on the unit, and also liaise with the wider Speech and Language Therapy service across Manchester Foundation Trust.  You will take responsibility for supervising more junior members of staff and students.

Training and on-going continual professional development, with opportunities for further education and personal development is encouraged. There will also be regular appraisals using the KSF with personal learning objectives and supervision from senior staff within the team.
