The Division of Surgery is looking for Trainee/Nursing Assistants to work within our busy 18 theatres suite.

Your role will be that of a Nursing Assistant to the qualified theatre practitioners i.e. Theatre Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners within the theatre department.  Your main responsibility will be collecting, escorting and reassuring patients from the ward into the anaesthetic room coupled with staffing the forward wait area where patients wait for their operative procedure. You will also escort patients back to the ward areas after they have had surgery. The role also includes many other duties for example waste management, stock rotation, medical devices and to undertake any departmental audits.

If you do not hold a recognised level 2 qualification you will be accepted for the post on the condition that you complete a Peri-operative Apprenticeship in Health programme. We will also provide you with a comprehensive induction programme and you will be fully supported ‘on the job’ to complete the course of study.

The Apprenticeship programme is fully funded by the Trust and consists of 18 months intensive training to prepare you for your  role.

On successful completion of the programme you will have attained a Peri-operative Apprenticeship qualification.

Successful applicants who have secured a position on the 18 month apprenticeship will be paid at £15,310.43 and will progress to Band 2 salary £17,460 - £18,702 per annum upon successful completion. If you are already qualified you will commence at the bottom of Band 2 £17,460 per annum.
